Norway has decided to give Finland the mountain
Norway has launched a campaign to promote the idea that it is necessary to give the neighboring Finland border summit of Mount Halti as a gift to the centennial of the country's independence. Now part of the mountain belongs to Norway.
Finland will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of independence in 2017.
Part of the mountain Halti is already on the territory of Finland, on its slopes - the highest point in the country (1324 m). However, the peak of the mountain height of 1365 m already owns Norway.
Activists offer to move abroad in order to "give" top of the mountain of Finland, and state that these changes will be barely visible on the map.
"It will be a wonderful gift. How many countries can boast that gave the neighbor the mountain? "- Says a Facebook page online campaign, which is already supported by more than 4,000 people.
"We give Finland to new heights!" - Urging activists.
A former employee of the Norwegian Mapping Authority, now retired Bjorn Geyrr Harsson said that such an idea came to him a few decades ago. He suspects that the campaign on Facebook could start his son.
Many Finns in the Network welcomed the initiative as a sign of good-neighborly relations. However, there were also dissatisfied: grumblers believe that the change of borders would lead to unnecessary red tape. And individual citizens Suomi claimed that Norway would be better if they gave at least one oil well, reports BBC.
