NASA presented the image of a mysterious region of Pluto - we are talking about the recesses located in the region Tombaugh Regio.

New high-quality image was made using a telescopic camera spacecraft New Horizons. At the time of capture probe is at a distance of 15,400 km from the surface of Pluto. The focus of scientists appeared strange recesses in Tombaugh Regio, or even call this region - "The heart of Pluto." According to scientists, the deepening layers of ice formed. Experts believe that they are relatively recent.

The area became known as "The Heart of Pluto" because of its visual resemblance to the image of the heart in popular culture. For the first time, the region discovered in the summer of 2015. During the research, scientists have identified two mountain ranges here. The height of the first (Mountain Norgeya) reaches 3500 m, and the second (Mountain Hillary) - up to 1500 m. The left side of the "heart", according to the findings, a crater, which is filled with crystal with nitrogen.

Automatic interplanetary station NASA New Horizons was launched in January 2006. The focus of the unit is Pluto and its moon Charon. It is planned that the mission of the probe will be completed in 2026, though the plans may be revised.
